South Island NZDA, Geese Cull

This is a shared branch club hunt

The Upper Clutha Branch are once again running a culling program to benefit farmers around the Taieri catchment area by shooting feral Greylag geese with the assistance of NZDA members.

We have 8 farms available to shoot over. This email has been sent to all South Island NZDA members and the opportunity is also available to those North Island Branches who are willing to travel.

In February 2023,  24 shooters from southern branches accounted for in excess of 1100 birds over 2 days.

Cost:

$45 per person to cover the porta loo and BBQ hire and general expenses.

Please pay in advance at the time of registration to secure your place

Location: 263 Puketoi Runs Road,  Patearoa

Follow NZDA signs through the internal farm road network to the campsite. Please travel at no more than 10kph as this is an operational dairy farm.

Onsite contact numbers:

Corry Walker 0274886601

Murry Burns 02102356147

What to bring:

Accommodation is limited to camping unless private arrangements have been made so bring your own tent and camping gear.

We are hiring a BBQ for you to cook your food on and a portaloo is available and there is a nearby stream for washing – bring your own drinking water.

Shooting is limited to shotguns – shot size is from buckshot to #3 minimum. – bring plenty.

Further Info:

We are ground shooting feral geese and are keen to promote NZDA to all of the farmers of the Maniototo, therefore safe, responsible behaviour and good ethics are expected to ensure we get invited back next year.

Current NZDA Membership is essential for insurance purposes - no dogs are allowed and Firearms Licences are essential.

ATVs are NOT allowed, however 4wd buggies are, if unsure please call Corry or Murray

Fish and Game have approved the use of lead for the culling BUT absolutely NO water fowl to be shot.

Ideally we are looking for between 30 and 50 shooters

Once everyone has registered a list of attendees will be sent out so you can arrange car pooling with your mates.

There will be a Zoom meeting on the Wed night 31st Jan for a quick briefing and an opportunity to ask any questions.

Once paid you will be sent the link for the zoom session
